FAQ

1. Can I try a class before signing up?
Yes! We strongly encourage you to do so. Please call our office to make arrangements.

2. What are your operating hours?
Monday to Friday              -       6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Saturday                              -       9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Sunday                                 -       9:00 am to 12:00 pm
3. Is there any age limit?
For kids’, we would advise that those from 5 years old and above, as we believe it would be easier for the child to grasp the terms and techniques at this age.

For adults, so long as you are raring to go, our instructors will guide you accordingly.

4. What are your classes like?
Come down and take a look at them. It is martial arts, fitness, and well-being all rolled into one.

5. Do I need any preparation before starting off?
No. Our instructors will guide you along and ensure that training is both interesting and meaningful.

6. Do I need to buy any equipment?
All you need to purchase is a suitable set of gi (uniform). This can be done so from our club shop.

7. How many lessons are there per week?
Please refer to the training schedule.

8. Is there any make-up class if I were to miss my lesson for some reason?
There is no make- up class. However, for kids, you can come for the next lesson (i.e. on Sunday, if he were to miss his Saturday class). Similarly for adults, you may attend three lessons instead of two the following week.

9. If I am away for a prolonged period, will there be any pro-rated payment?
Please keep us informed, in writing, if you are away for a prolonged period. Fees for the month(s) you are away will be waived.

10. Can a kid join an adult class?
We strongly advise against this. Be it training intensity or techniques that are taught, an adult’s class is structured very differently

11. How much is the monthly fee? Is there any other fee payable?
Please refer to the fee structure.

12. I have a brown belt in another form of karate, can I maintain the same level with your club?
Our board of examiners will assess you in a test before coming to a decision.

13. How often will a grading (test) be conducted?
Typically there is one grading conducted every three months. Members will be kept posted via notices in the club, the club’s website and announcements by the respective instructors.

14. Is there a minimum number of lessons to attend before we can apply to be graded?
Yes. A minimum of 75% attendance is required in the three months leading up to a grading.

15. Is there a separate fee to be paid for grading?
Yes. Please refer to section on grading.

16. How many belt levels are there?
There are 8 kyu levels before you will attain your shodan (1st degree black belt) or junior shodan for kids.

17. How long does it take to attain a black belt?
If you were to attend classes regularly and are successful in your grading, typically it will take between 3 to 3.5 years to attain your black belt.

18. Can I take private 1-on-1 lessons?
Yes. Do give us a call to make arrangements.

19. Does SKA have any other location?
We do have three other locations. However, they are meant for members and students of the club and educational institutions respectively.

20. Is there parking space within your compound?
Yes, there is parking space within our grounds. You may wish to note that HDB paid parking is also available in the vicinity.
